Köln, GFKI e.V. Mitgliederhauptversammlung 2008
Die GFKI e.V. wählt einen neuen Vorstand
Die Mitgliederhauptversammlung der Gesellschaft zur Förderung künstlerischer Informatik (GFKI) e.V. hat am 26.02.2009 in den Räumen der Gesellschaft in Köln stattgefunden. Als Höhepunkt der Versammlung wurde ein neuer Vorstand gewählt, nachdem der alte Vorstand nach Ablauf seiner Amtszeit nicht erneut kandidierte. Die Versammlung der Mitglieder des Vereins wählten darauf hin Guido Doublet mit allen Stimmen zum neuen Vorstandsvorsitzenden der Gesellschaft zur Förderung künstlerischer Informatik e.V.; ebenso mit allen Stimmen der anwesenden Mitglieder wurde Stefan Zingel zum stellvertretender Vorstandsvorsitzenden gewählt. Beide neuen Vorstände nahmen die Wahl an. Das neue neue Vorstandsteam dankte seinen Vorgängern, Jens Piesk und Bolle Bollmann, für deren Arbeit und Einsatz in den Jahren 2006 bis 2008 und legte den Mitgliedern die Grundzüge der Vereinstätigkeiten in 2009 dar. Ebenso wurde Daniel Schwarz als neuer Kassenprüfer für Gesellschaft mit allen anwesenden Stimmen gewählt.

Finale Vorführung des EU-Projekts ETUDE
Bei dem von der EU-Kommission geförderten Projekt im Rahmen des Culture 2000, verschmolzen die Grenzen zwischen Realität und Virtualität. Ziel des Projekts war Ideen zu entwickeln, die die Möglichkeiten von modernster Technik und künstlerischer Performance verschmelzen lassen und in ein kreatives Szenario einfügen. Nach drei Tagen Workshop war es dann endlich soweit: Regisseur und Choreograph, Dragan Živadinov und sein Team aus Slowenien, Tschechien und Deutschland präsentierten avantgardistisches Bewegungstheater der besonderen Art. Mithilfe einer Game-Engine agierten die Schauspieler auf zwei Bühnen (einer realen und einer digitalen) via Datenanzug in einer Computerspiele-ähnlichen Welt. Auf diese Weise entstand eine Vermischung von klassischem Theatergeschehen mit interaktiver experimenteller Technik. Mit dem Event konnte Dragan Živadinov, Meister des Absurden erneut sowohl Kulturinteressierte wie auch Pressevertreter begeistern.

Start of the new EU-IST project ELEKTRA
With the kick off meeting held in Cologne, Germany, LMR’s new EU-IST research project "ELEKTRA - Enhanced Learning Experience and Knowledge Transfer" was launched. Coordinated by the LMR, nine European partners cooperate to develop an innovative concept, which will be refined / integrated in a high quality “State of the Art” computer learning game. ELEKTRA will be funded with 2.4 million Euros by the Sixth Framework Programme of the European Commission’s IST-Programme for the duration of two years. With the kick off meeting held in Athens (Greece), LMR’s new EU research project SMILE - “Supporting Vocational Education and Training through Mobile Learning Environments” under the “Leonardo da Vinci” Programme has started.

Start of the new EU-Culture 2000 project ETUDE
LMR’s new EU research project ETUDE - Electronic Theatre in Virtual Dramatic Environments has started. The ETUDE project aims to stimulate new formats of creativity through combining real and virtual actors in mixed dramatic environments and produce a series of multimedia performances. These original performances using scenarios for realtime electronic theatre will become prototypes of new kind of cultural expression and be presented in three different European theatres of Prague, London and Cologne.

Tweenwork Award
For the second time the Tweenwork Award was assigned by ANIS (graph. simulation and animation) Group. The graduant Alexander Hornung which was supervised by the LMR wins the second prize with his master thesis "An Autonomous Real-Time Camera Agent for Interactive Narratives and Games". The prize was awarded to interactive multimedia works that reveal a great innovative, high-quality and creative potential in the field of informatics/algorithms and art/design.

Human Computer Interaction 2003
Since 1999 six lead projects in the research area "Human Computer Interaction" have been funded by the German Federal Ministries BMBF (Federal Ministry of Education and Research) and BMWA (Federal Ministry of Economics and Labour). Significant project results are presented to international experts at the status conference. The LMR is research partner of the lead project EMBASSI. Within a workshop for standardisation the LMR presented within a panel discussion its contributions within the field of 3d-animated characters and anthropomorphic interfaces.

Buisness TV – Web-based Corporate Newsshow
Within the scope of a research cooperation with the Pavone AG and plan_b media the Groupware Competence Center of the University of Paderborn and the Laboratory for Mixed Realities Cologne developed a web-based business TV application. A virtual newsreader reports on the latest news of the project-managers. The Lotus-Notes-based project-management software has been provided from Pavone AG. Due to the integrated imigo(TM)-technologie and a news authoring and editing system, the news can be generated and modified by the employees of the enterprise themselves.

start of the BMBF research project, "mQube" on virtual and augmented reality. MQube is a research project for the conception and realisation of a mobile multi- user mixed reality system. The essence of such a concept lies in further building on the progress already made in the field of augmented reality (AR). Thus, the research project has devoted itself to broadening the application possibilities of augmented reality through the mQube- System. This project is due to last three years with the aim of developing a mobile, cost effective and easy to install AR environment for creative teamwork.

Photokina 2000
The LMR wins an award at the Photokina 2000 awards ceremony. "Ich sehe was, was du nicht siehst" (I can see something that you can’t see) wins the award for "Best 3d-Animation 2000 in the category for mixed realities". The interactive children’s show "Ich sehe was.." which makes full use of the possibilities afforded by 3d computer technology and the internet in a playful way suitable for children, was developed with the support of the following partners: Forschungszentrum Informationstechnik (GMD-IMK), Deutsches Forschungsnetz e.V. (DFN), Westdeutscher Rundfunk (WDR), Ostdeutscher Rundfunk Brandenburg (ORB), Institut für Rundfunktechnik (IRT) and plan_b media at the LMR. The concept of the children’s game show was drawn up by the KHM (Kunsthochschule für Medien) graduate Christiane Buechner within the scope of her masters thesis.

Two winning groups
Award Ceremony at the Maritim hotel in Bonn. The BMBF presents awards to 25 research projects. Out of the 173 participants in the contest for ideas regarding ‘research and development work in the field of virtual and augmented reality,’ 25 groups were chosen by the panel of experts to take part in the second round. With 2 winning groups progressing into the second round, the LMR has to work with the cooperative partners on clarifying the details of the petitions for support for the research projects ‘M³ - a mobile multi- user mixed reality environment’ and ‘alVRed, non- linear Dramaturgy in VR environment’. After entering the completed project proposals before the 31.10.2000, it is then up to the experts to select the most innovative FuE proposals by 30.11.2000. Up to 15 FuE-proposals can be financed by the BMBF.
